Interview Question 2

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH SAFETY IN THE CLASSROOM?

I would make sure to enforce the policies of the school as well as well as go through all safety procedures that are relevant to the classroom.  For younger students, color coding the danger level of the equipment is a smart idea to allow students to realize what they are allowed to touch and what they are not allowed to touch.  I would also make sure tools being used for projects and in the classroom are age appropriate.  Another thing that will positively affect how safely the classroom is being run is enforcing respect in the classroom, whether it be respecting the materials and tools are respecting other classmates and their safety.

Interview Question 1

IF I'M A STUDENT IN YOUR CLASS, WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO SEE OR DO ON THE FIRST DAY?

I'm answering this in the response of the grade level I would most desire to teach which is the high school level. When the student walks in they will be welcome by a warm environment filled with images of art.  I will start the class with an ice breaker, which would include their name, an interesting fact about them, and what there favorite thing in art is because it loosens up the students first day jitters and helps me and the other students get to know each other.  After the ice breaker I will ask the students to fill out a survey to help me get to know the students even more and to also help me gauge where the starts are out and what they are interested in learning about.  After the introductions it is important to get the class rules out of the way right in the beginning.  I would like them to participate in what they think are fair rules, and then explain to them what I expect from them which is based on respect and active participation in the class.  The rest of the class period I would go over a tentative schedule for the class and let the students know how they will be graded.  My goal for the first day is to create excitement and respect for the class.

Where I'm at right now in my journey to be an art teacher...

I've had many hopes and dreams on this long (and i mean long) journey through college...My dreams have ranged from wanting to be the next American Idol to now my present dream of wanting to be Clay Matthew's trophy wife.  However these are just my long shot dreams that everyone has, however my hopes are much deeper future realities.  My hopes started out as just making it through college, however they have developed into deeper plans of graduating with my teaching degree.  My hope is to graduate within the next year and a half.  After I graduate I hope to teach in California near the beach that way I can know down to passions in one throw.  I still have a lot of work to do and it has took me a long time but I am finally prepared to get my but in gear and get the work done to get where I need to go.
